Here is number 30!!! Still can't believe we've been on that many in just under 8 years. Still remember parts of every cruise. So with that said let's get into our latest blog and this time we set sail on Regal Princess!
Regal Princess is sister ship to Royal Princess, in the Princess Cruise fleet. She is dubbed the "Love Boat" and the cast is their Godparents. Every since I first saw the image of Royal Princess several years ago I had to get on Royal, well since that didn't happen soon enough we choose Regal. Basically the same ship with minor differences. One noticeable difference is the aft pool that does not exist on Royal, but Regal added one.
Okay so we finally booked Regal and we were super excited to head back on Princess. Our first and only time was a long time ago on Ruby, which that trip wasn't too memorable since our minds were not on the cruise due to some personal reasons. So like always one way we prep for a cruise is by watching countless videos on YouTube for Regal as well as reading up on the ship so we don't miss anything.
Let's talk about the trip down. Since we live in Orlando we had to take a trip back down to South Florida, which we made into a multi-purpose trip and stayed with family, so it was really nice to have that time before our trip. Getting to the port we drove and parked in the garage. I wish I could tell you more of the terminal, but from the moment we parked our car and got onto the ship was a quick flash. We expected to wait in the terminal for a bit, but nope, right on the ship by 11am, out of 30 cruises that never happens! We headed to our room, which was ready by 11:15am! Again that never happens. So far off to a great start!
Once you get on Regal you have a choice of a few different options for food, we chose to head up to the buffet like usual. Throughout most of the trip the buffet was really nice, never too crowded and very much spread out. I'll go more into that below.
Regal was full of things to do and one highlight from the ship is Princess Live, which is setup like a studio where they film for the cabins. Great fun everyday and night. Make sure to get there early if you want to have a seat. Another highlight was up on deck 16 at the Fountain Pool where on select nights had a quick Fountain show.
Entertainment was really good, Regal offers some great shows throughout the cruise, we only wish they had more. Comedy was also very enjoyable. Only thing is you need to get to the theater (at least for the first showing) early. About an hour before for good seats, it usually is 85% full 15mins before. Keep that in mind.
Dining, well we've eaten at some many places on ships. Food at this point is pretty basic, a few good options here and there. Regal was the same in that aspect. The buffet was setup really well, similar to MSC Divina with sections all over, never any long lines to content with. They offered a good variety at the buffet and dining room. For specialty dining, they offer a few options, but for a ship of that size we felt they should offer more than a few. Service on the other hand was solid and great! Couldn't have asked for a better dining room duo to serve us.
We choose an interior stateroom this time, which I usually enjoy because no matter what I can fall right asleep and stay asleep most of the night. Our stateroom steward was fantastic, never in 30 cruises was our room cleaned so quickly. We can go away for an hour and it would be spotless when we returned. Usually after an hour we've either haven't had it cleaned yet or they are working on it. George, our steward was great. Also a very, very nice person.
Overall our trip was very enjoyable and Princess is heading in a good direction as a cruise line. We do wish we had ships up here in Orlando, but maybe in the future. Now who's ready for our tour!
Please note that at the end of the tour/review I have added all of the dinner menus from our trip.
Alfredo's
Alfredo's is a complementary dining venue in the atrium area on the Regal Princess. It is named "Best Pizza at Sea", well we had to try this place out on our visit. In addition to pizza, they offer a good selection of other food that is also free. Drinks are extra. They have a bar where you can eat and watch the pizzas being made right in front of you. Onto the pizza. Well we wouldn't call it the "Best at Sea", it's not the worst we've had. It is somewhere in the middle for us. MSC Divina still holds the "Best" title for pizza. We give this place a thumbs up, mainly because we love complementary dining options outside of the dining room.
(Went with a half cheese and half Regal. Again nothing amazing, it was decent if you're having a pizza craving. Prego Pizza up on Lido was better. Flavor wasn't there for us personally.)
Allegro Dining Room
The Allegro Dining Room is one of three main dining rooms on board Regal. We ended up here for our wine tasting, which was $25 per person and we are severed 6 small wine samplings and some finger food. The tasting we felt did drag on for longer then most of us there would like. Was it worth $25 a person, not really. We've done these before and enjoyed them. The waiters throughout the ship push this a lot the first day or two of the cruise very hard. They also hold another tasting towards the end of the cruise which is also pushed heavily.
(This was an additional $25 per person for the tasting. It was good but not worth it for us. We didn't get a lot of wine and it was more talking than anything else. Wines weren't that good either.)
Bellini's
Overlooking the atrium Bellini's is a great spot to grab a drink and listen to music on any evening.
Calypso Cabana
Located on the pool deck, here is where you can grab your towels for the day and a night where you can grab a blanket for a movie.
Calypso Cove & Other Shops
Above the casino you will be able to find your shopping options on Regal.
(Of course I bought one of these for my collection. Looking at it under my TV right now!)
(They had a rack outside of the store with Men's button up shirts, tropical style which looked nice for a decent price.)
(I see you Thor!)
Camp Discovery Youth & Teen Center
I took a walk to this area during one of the port days just to see what they had going on, since we really don't talk much about it. I headed down the hallway and each room is for each set of age groups. Also each group has their own daily activities. The teens also have their own private sun deck and hot tub.
(I was impressed with this section for the teens. Really nice. This would have been more than enough room for every teen on board if they were all here at once!)
Celebrations
Looking for something sweet? Come in and get your sweetness on!
Churchill's Cigar Lounge
We remember the cigar lounge on Ruby, well this wasn't has smoky. Still smell it as soon as you walk in.
Club 6
I think this was the night club, never went to it. Where it is located it's more of a walkthrough, opposite of the Princess Casino. We did have an evening cocktail hour, which we swung by quickly on a couple nights.
Concerto Dining Room
Here is the second dining room. Here we had our breakfast, and they also did lunch here. Never had a chance to get to it. Breakfast was basic, nothing special. Really wish cruise lines would step it up with getting more variety in their breakfast options. Here was very basic, tasted good though.
(I asked the waiter if I could get the Grill and Griddle, he asked it's not a meal but you can choose whatever I wanted. So I chose everything!)
(My wife was a bit more simple with Blueberry Pancakes.)
(Another day she ordered eggs with ham, bacon and sausage.)
Concierge Lounge
Tucked away next to the Wedding Chapel. The Concierge Lounge is an area for suite guests to come to and relax, snacks all day.
Cozumel, Mexico
It's been a while since we've been here. Last trip I believe was on MSC Divina, but on the far side. Well Cozumel has built up a bit since our last trip. We headed off for a bit and just walked around the port area. Still as annoying as ever with the locals, but not nearly as bad as Nassau or Jamaica. We were here for a long day which was nice since the boat was not as busy for most of the day and into the night.
(This is the hub once you enter the port area, here you can pick up a taxi, gets very busy throughout the day.)
(Never know what you're going to see when you look up.)
(This bar offered a free pool and the soup that day was tequila!)
(Comment below if you know of a good restaurant to eat at near the port, that isn't a chain.)
(Carnival Vista, one of their newest ships.)
(This is our's, Regal Princess.)
(Total of 5 ships in port today, including us.)
(Off the security point to the left is a small beach, which you cannot swim in, but chairs are around as well as a few bars.)
Crooners Bar
One of the best bars if you're looking for a place to grab a drink, listen to music and watch the people pass by, head over to the Crooners Bar. We found ourselves here a lot throughout the cruise. Great drink selection, you can either sit at the bar or in the large lounge. We liked how it wasn't tucked away anywhere and the bar is out in the open area with shops and Ocean Terrace across the way.
(Live entertainment nightly.)
(This was the Bailey's Raspberry, it was close to a cherry cordial, but with alcohol. Really good!)
(My wife went with the Nutty Irishman, she enjoyed it very much.)
Crown Grill
In addition to Italian, the Regal Princess also offers a Steakhouse. We did not eat here, mainly because we have tons of steakhouses near our home in Orlando and we kind of wanted something different if we were to do a specialty restaurant. That was a big disappointment for us on Regal was the lacking selection of specialty dining options. For a ship this size should have at least double than what they do offer. Hopefully on future ships they do add more options to enjoy. However here is the Crown Grill. One thing we noticed as we walked past one night was that next to the Crown Grill is the Wheelhouse Bar and the Promenade area, one night as we walked by we just heard loud music coming from the area and could assume that the Crown Grill had just as loud of a noise level as we did. The Grill has an open concept so any music or noise can be heard straight through into the restaurant.
Falmouth, Jamaica
Back to Jamaica we go. One of our least favorite countries to visit. We were just missing Nassau to make this a trip of bad port visits with Cozumel and Jamaica rounding out that. So we headed off the ship, by the way can I say the weather during this week at all the port was beautiful, great weather. We got off and walked around the port area and decided to head outside the gates and into Falmouth. Much like Ocho Rios the locals are nonstop and constantly follow you around, even after you say no. They are probably worse than Nassau and Cozumel with that. We stayed in the city for maybe 30 minutes at most and headed back into the port area. We walked around for a bit and passed by this tour stand. It was $25 a person, so we decided to do it. It was an hour long and we took a ride around Falmouth, stopping at a church and a small beach to take pictures. If you're looking for a short tour around just to get a feel for the area then do this tour, we enjoyed it. Falmouth outside the gates we don't recommend since it is very rough with the locals harassing you every two feet to see this and buy that. So stick to a tour or stay on the ship this day. The initial port area before the gates to the city is fine. Tons of restaurants and shops, also a Margaritaville is available.
(If interested, the stand is setup in the port area, no need to go outside the gates for this.)
(Out of the gates and into the city.)
(....and five minutes later we're back inside the gates.)
(Decided to take a tour. It was worth it we felt. Wasn't the best tour around, but if you're looking for something to do without having to go far this is a solid option.)
(Lot's of photo ops around the area.)
(Our first stop was at one of the area churches.)
(Our tour guide and driver, both really nice.)
(Our second stop was at this beach area. Here you can grab a drink and dip your feet in the water, only stayed for 10 minutes or so.)
(The area jail.)
(Right outside the gate area where we first came out to. Notice the security. Not trying to deter you away from the local area, but just be aware of your surroundings, most ports will have armed guards around at all times.)
(As we were leaving, got this great shot of Harmony of the Seas.)
Fitness Center
Here is a few pictures from the fitness center. My wife headed here a few times throughout the cruise. She says that they had a good variety of machines for the size of the gym so you can do cardio. People were respectful of time, also clean. Great place to watch the sunrise. Only bad thing is that the fitness center is a pathway to the back pool.
(Why not run with an amazing view!)
(Also a studio, here some classes are held.)
Fountain Pool & Movies Under the Stars
On the Lido deck on 16 you will walk past the Fountain Pool which throughout the day and night offers concerts and movies on the big screen. The main pool is of a decent size, they also have a smaller round one near the screen. Hot tubs are up on 17. We hung out here to watch a few movies. They also hand out blankets and pillows for your chair, as well as popcorn. Seats do fill up, so if you have a certain movie you want to see, get here early and get a spot. Other than the movies, the pool deck offers a bar as well as the grill and pizza. One thing we loved on the pool deck was the couch areas around the sides of the decks, really comfortable. If you walk down a bit more you will find the SeaWalk & SeaView Bar, which we will talk about more shortly.
(Check your Princess Patter for times for the fountain show. Also a tip to stay on the opposite side of the wind, otherwise you will get wet, like I did!)
(Plenty of great movies, you should be able to tell which one this was. Also views were great, this was mine from deck 17 while sitting in a lounger.)
Future Cruise Center & Captain's Circle
Looking to book your next vacation? Or need some help with your current cruise? Stop here and they will take really great care of you.
Gelato
One thing we regret not getting was something from this place. Prices were really good and the selections were great! Next time for sure!
Georgetown, Grand Cayman
Today we headed off the rough tender ride and over and landed in Grand Cayman. During our trip on Regal we did find out that several cruise lines are chipping in and possibly creating a pier for the ships to dock in. Once we got on land we walked around for a bit and checked out what was going on. Grand Cayman we've been to several times, and have done the sightseeing tour, which was fun. We were thinking about going to 7-mile beach but I really wasn't up for it. We did hear that buses and/or taxis can take you there for about $5 a person, next time I think we will check it out. We stayed off for about an hour or two and headed to use the restrooms over at Margaritaville and took a few photos for you. Once other part of the day I loved was seeing all of the ships.
(If you're looking for the Margaritaville, either find a map or ask. We've docked at several areas in Georgetown, and either you will need to go left or right once at the town by the water.)
(This was their pool, not large at all, but with all the ships it wasn't busy at all.)
(Some the ships with us.)
(Here's our!)
Guest Services & Shore Excursions
You got questions, they have answers! This is your go-to place for any issues or questions with your on board experience as well as any shore excursions if you don't have any idea what you want to do, they can help you out.
Horizon Bistro & Horizon Court
Not sure what the difference is between the Bistro and Court. However, either way you look at it this is the buffet on Regal Princess. Overall it is a pretty big buffet, which mirrors on both sides. Plenty of options and stations. One of the few cruises that we never felt was overcrowded. Only had that feeling briefly towards the back area where a majority of the food is, but wasn't too bad. Keep an eye out because you will always find something new to eat. With having our dinner so early we did get a chance to check out the buffet for a later night snack, roughly at 9pm. Great if you're looking to catch a movie.
(This was our 9pm buffet run.)
(Tacos anyone?!)
(Several carving stations.)
(A giant Philly Cheesesteak!)
(Crawfish, mussels and shrimp.)
(Chocolate fountain at the chocolate buffet.)
Horizon Terrace & Outrigger Bar
We loved this area, especially at night when its quiet and you hear nothing but waves. Also some great views!
(Harmony was so close to us, great views.)
(Hmm, any recommendations?)
International Cafe
I remember this from Ruby, this is always open (not sure if it is 24hrs or not), one of my favorite places on the ship. I think I stopped here just about everyday to get a snack and maybe a coffee. The snacks are always free, the coffee is at menu pricing. Princess wins points in our book for this Cafe on their fleet, very nice to have.
(That Ham & Cheese on the bottom was great, they just need to cook it right and it will be one of the best things on the ship. I had a perfect melty one and the second was colder cheese.)
(This was Pistachio and something else, but it was amazing! That sauce in the middle was everything!)
Internet Cafe
Not sure where the "cafe" part is, but here is where you can hop on the computer or get the internet package for your device. We had internet for our trip and we really hope you enjoyed our constant posting. We really wanted you to feel like you were there with us. Also I wanted to mention that the internet speed was great, actually faster than my home internet. Comcast if you're reading this, you might want to work out your issues here in Orlando. We recommend getting the internet if you have to connect with home.
Laundromat
We always get requests for the laundry service areas, well here it is! I want to say that they offer it on different decks, might want to check, but here is one I came across on my tour.
Library
Here is the library on Regal Princess.
Lotus Spa & Salon
Have to say from our first impression of the spa, was that it was a little overwhelming. We decided to check out the open house, which is the first day and many ships and lines offer this. When we headed over we just really planned on checking out those warm chairs and doing a mini self-guided tour like we've done before on Norwegian Escape. When you get down there you are greeted with a spa staff member and they take you one-by-one to each department so they can try to "sell" you the service. After a couple we just said we wanted to see the spa with the chairs and pool. The spa staff member didn't have an issue, when we went into the area we checked it out and took some pictures then she goes on to "sell" us that package, we said we were unsure if we wanted to do a package for the week, then when we said we had to think about it she asks "what would you do if the spots ran out since it is very limited", to which I reply "oh well, then I miss out.". Don't get me wrong it wasn't a bad tour. If you're looking to actually get the spa package and want to learn more then they will give you a great tour around to learn about what they offer. For us it wasn't what we were looking for, again just our personal preference of what we were looking to do at that time.
(All we wanted to do was sit on these chairs for 5 minutes and be left alone.)
(For a place that was supposed to be nice and quiet and relaxing, this was very loud!)
(One of three saunas.)
(Followed by the second.)
(As well as the third.)
Medical Center
Located on deck 4, where the tenders are is the Medical Center.
Mermaid's Tail
Outside on the pool deck on Lido is the Mermaid's Tail. One of the many bars around the ship. I do want to recommend the 24K Margarita, really good!
(This was the 24K Margarita, very good!)
Ocean Terrace Seafood Bar
Right outside of Crooners and the shops you come to Ocean Terrace. It's not a large spot, but big enough to grab a drink and some sushi.
Pastry Shop
Located in the middle of the Horizon Bistro and Court, is the Pastry Shop. I remember seeing this for the first time in concept pictures for Royal, I was very excited for this. Have to say it was a bit underwhelming for me personally. They did offer a few selections of cookies and pastries along with a coffee bar, but that was it. I never really had anything more memorable than the Peanut Butter Cookies, which we HIGHLY recommend.
(Best cookies on Regal!)
Photo & Video Gallery
Here you will find the photos taken throughout the cruise. Also they sell the DVD for the week, we haven't seen this since Carnival way back in the day. Also here you can purchase accessories for your Medallion.
Piazza & Piazza Bar
When you first board Regal Princess you will walk right into the beautiful Piazza. This is the central hub of the ship, well any Princess ship that is. We were honestly really looking forward to seeing how big this Piazza was, it really wasn't as big as the pictures and video made it out to be. Still very beautiful though. Throughout the day and night the Piazza does become active, everything from horse racing (wooden ones) to live music. We felt on Ruby there was much more entertainment available then on Regal. Could have been a busier week since we sailed over Christmas. Either way the Piazza is a great place to sit and relax in. Steps away near the International Café you will find the Piazza Bar, there you can grab a cocktail. Plenty of other spots around the atrium as well to grab a drink and bite to eat.
Platinum Studio
Here is the photo studio on Regal Princess. Located near the kid clubs.
Port Everglades (Ft Launderdale, FL)
Well we took the drive down, which really we shouldn't complain since we've done the opposite trip from Ft Lauderdale to Orlando several times. However it was our first time since we moved. Overall a nice drive, we came a day earlier to see family and friends, so that was nice. I really do wish I could have talked more about the terminal and the process and what it was like sitting in the terminal as we waited to board, but it never happened. We parked and were through security and onto the ship by 11:15am and to our room and dropped off luggage at 11:30am. Quickest we've ever had, it was great! The port on the other hand is one of my personal favorites since it does hold a very special place in my heart. When I was a little kid I remember when my dad worked on the bridge project on 17th street, basically the "V-shaped" bridge where the ship docks at. I was around this area and on tug boats well before I ever had a love for cruising, so that bridge means a lot to me. Now fast forward to us arriving back home, pretty much the same. Off the ship in no time and already on the turnpike heading home.
Prego Pizzeria
We now head up stairs to Lido again. Here is the Pizzeria, every day they offer a cheese and pepperoni pizza along with a specialty option of the day. Pizza honestly wasn't that bad in flavor. Almost better than Alfredo's. Still not the "Best at Sea"! Great option if you're out watching a movie.
(Here is the pizza on Lido, we felt better than Alfredos.)
Princess Art Gallery
The art gallery is where you're able to come and check out works of art. Also attend the art auction, usually very fun!
Princess Casino
The casino is a good-sized casino, it does have a fault that we felt anyways. In order to get to and from the theater (depending on where you're going) you will either have to cut through the casino or Club 6. Not a big deal, but just be aware if you're looking to stay away from the smoke. Speaking of smoke, on certain nights the casino becomes "smoke-free". Also inside the casino you can take the stairs to the shops.
Princess Cays
Our first stop of the cruise was at Princess' private island, Princess Cays, a beautiful tropical paradise! This was our second time here and out of all of the Private Islands in the Bahamas one of our favorites. Once you get off the tender you walk into the first section which is basically beaches and chairs, along with some shops around. You also have several bars around to grab a drink. Now find a seat and relax. Our suggestion is to walk near the pier, go for a short swim and head towards the pier and check out all of the colorful fish. My wife did this and it was a highlight of the trip for her. You do not need to pay for anything extra, unless you want to rent equipment from the staff. Bring your own if you want. I had a water proof case so she tried to use that as I watched from the dock. Later on around 11am or so, the staff puts on the BBQ, which is burger, hot dogs and a few other things. Not impressed at all, one of the worst we've ever had. Also (not sure if this is for every ship or the water station was down that day) they handed out bottles of ice cold water for free. We took a few extra for the day. It was a beautiful day at port and we really enjoyed our time here. Next time we will bring some more snorkeling gear.
(See all the fish!)
(If you swim from the left, to the end of the pier you will get a chance to see so many amazing tropical fish right below you and swimming all around you. To the right is water where you can swim but not a beach.)
(Here is the water to the right of the pier, you can see how there is not a beach and it is raised up.)
(Kid area.)
Princess Live & Princess Live Cafe
Another thing that I first saw on Royal before she came out was this unique studio called Princess Live. This is where they film some of the game shows throughout the cruise. We had a chance to check out a few of them and they were a lot of fun, great use of this area. Also the bar outside I noticed shows the trivia on the actual bar (photo below), really cool. I did ask my wife what she liked better, Princess Live or Hasbro the Game Show, which is something similar (in the theater) on Carnival. She preferred Hasbro, me...I loved Princess Live! One tip we have for Princess Live is to arrive a little early if there is something you really want to do. We came on one night (several minutes after the event started) and only standing room in back was available, which that was even hard to see since the lounge is made really for seating only.
(This was so cool. As the trivia was going on inside Princess Live I had come out to the bar for a water and saw this on the bar top.)
Princess Theater
The Princess Theater was not as large as some theaters we've been in which gives it the more up-close feel, sort of. You have a decent seat even towards the back rows. We usually did the first showings at night, which filled up quickly so if you're looking for a prime seat at the end of a row get there about and hour before and by 40 minutes before, the theater is usually at 90% full. Again get here early for any show because it does fill up and there really isn't any seating room at all. The theater was host to a lot throughout the cruise, one dislike we had on Regal, and any other cruise that does this is a production show on the first night. The first day is pretty rough with people coming from all over and getting their cruise started then having to do a show a night. We're usually exhausted the first night but managed to check out the show. Then the other shows followed with a comedy show in between. All shows were done by night 4, which was a bit of a disappointment since they were all really great! Comedy was also really good, we went to both shows. We also had a Beatle tribute band, and a Mexican Folklorico show. If you're a fan of the tv show the Voice make sure to check out live show in the theater (sign up auditions held in Princess Live a few days prior on the cruise.). One thing we looked forward to was the live cooking demo and galley tour. The show was a lot of fun but we felt the Galley tour was better on Ruby. Also want to note the seats in this theater were not as tight and as uncomfortable as Ruby. Some of the end seats had the arms go up, which made it nice at times. Overall the Princess Theater offered a lot of variety with shows and entertainment. We enjoyed every show that Regal offered, some of the best we've seen. We did hear on the Eastern Caribbean route that they change out one of the shows.
(This was about 30 minutes before showtime!)
(Bravo featured the Regal Princess Singers and Dances and guest soprano, Amal El Shrafi. This was a show based on the "ultimate pop opera experience parading a convoy of show-stopping hits." Amazing show! We love opera-style shows and this was great! Wish more shows offered this on ships.)
(Born to Dance was our first show and it highlighted some of Broadway's most treasured choreographers. Loved the way they did this show, we were blown away!)
(Our final show was Fiera, which was a musical journey through an enchanting late 19th century European fairground. Another great show! Hard to pick a favorite show from Regal, all were great!)
(On another night we had the Beatlemaniacs, a live Beatle concert in the theater. We watched around half of it, they had another show in the Piazza towards the end of the cruise. We're not big fans of the Beatles, reason why we didn't stay long. Seemed like a good show.)
(Here was the Mexican Folklorico Festival during our Cozumel visit. Much like the Beatle show, we stayed until about halfway through.)
(Theater also had a variety of movies, such as Black Panther and Venom.)
(Here we are for the "How It's Made Backstage Tour". Always a fun tour!)
(Compared to Oasis, this was amazing. Oasis was so much smaller and cramped. Regal was, well Regal!)
(This was the outfit rack, similar to a dry clean one, which spans three levels up!)
(Time for the Voice of the Ocean. Tryouts are in the Princess Live a few days earlier.)
(This was the Culinary Demonstration, hosted by Executive Chef Florin and Maitre d'Hotel Ignazio. Them two were great together! Loved when Ignazio made his version of the Black Forest Cake, which at dinner I asked him where my piece was!)
(Following the demonstration was the galley tour.)
(I found this so cool for some reason.)
(Here we have a potato in the shape of a mushroom.)
(The Love Boat are the Godparents of Regal Princess. You will see tributes around the ship.)
(I always get photos of the different funnels.)
(Some information on Regal Princess.)
(Regal Princess offers so much artwork, throughout the halls you will find some from the different ships in the fleet.)
(Or some weird ones, like this guy here!)
(My wife always takes a photo of the hallways from each ship we go on.)
(Out of deck 7 I believe is the open deck where you can grab a seat and relax. It is usually open during the day on both sides.)
(A view all the way up.)
(Be careful going in and out through some doors to the outside area I showed above, these doors are very heavy and very hard to open!)
(Great spot for sailaway!)
Retreat Pool
This area is for adults, 18 and up. So that means about 95% of our ship! It was busy at times but still very enjoyable. The cabanas around the pool are able to be rented for an extra charge. Pool water was nice and people came and went all day so finding a chair near the pool never was too hard. We spent a lot of time here on certain days. Very nice and relaxing! Met a lot of nice people, most of which on their 30th back-to-back-to-back-back in a row. I think we were one of the only people not on a back-to-back. Some people were on for 5 to 10 cruises straight. One day! Those are our goals.
(The pool was crowded at times, but people were coming and going all the time.)
Sabatini's Trattoria
Here is the other specialty dining venue on board Regal. Much like the steakhouse we have about 50,000 Italian restaurants in Orlando. So dining here wasn't on our "to-do" list.
Sanctuary
Right near the Retreat Pool is the Sanctuary. On the first day they have an open house where you can walk around and check out the area and see pricing. It was a nice relaxing area, we did not do anything here. We're not ones to spend extra for the spa and massages, again we live in Orlando and have Disney 10 minutes from us, so we usually would just go there after work if we wanted.
Sea Day
One of my most hated days is the Sea Day. Lately I've been able to tolerate it and actually enjoy myself. This time we relaxed throughout our first day which we were headed to Jamaica. Then our second was our last day and everything went by so fast since we had back-to-back-to-back things going on all day long. They do pack activities into the sea days, sometimes too much at one time, which sucked!
Seaview Bar
On Lido is one of two observation bridges. This one is a bar that extends over the side of the ship looking all the way down 100+ feet to the sea below. I'm afraid of heights, so I know my wife was going to push me to do this, so I went straight over the bridge as soon as we got up to Lido on the first day. Wasn't bad at all. Throughout the trip I did it so many times. Even stopped and looked down at times. Really fun feature.
SeaWalk
Across from the Seaview Bar is the SeaWalk. Same concept and really beautiful at night. If you're afraid of the heights, don't be, it's fun! I'm very scared of heights and this was nothing at all, you know the 30th time around. Seriously, not bad, first time I did it I was fine.
Sports Deck
The sports deck contains some outside gym equipment as well as a basketball/tennis court, driving range and jogging track. I did see a putting green as well with a few holes a deck higher.
(Driving range.)
(Putting green, or known on the ship as the Lawn area.)
Stateroom C217 (Interior)
Last cruise we were in a Suite, this time we're going with an interior. Which is usually my favorite. I sleep like a baby, just rocking back and forth all night long. The room was a bit on the smaller side, so we did keep bumping into each other most of the time. Our stateroom steward George was AMAZING!!!! One of the nicest people on the ship. Out of 30 cruises we never had someone this great. We left for an hour for breakfast or dinner and the room was spotless. Never had that before. Usually we are still waiting or they are doing it as we're heading back. He was always in the halls and always a big smile on his face. Really a highlight of our cruise.
(You have to use your medallion to open the door. No more room key cards on Regal.)
(Hi Groot! I took the picture before I came on board of Baby Groot while I saw a statue of him at a theme park. Didn't realize we'd be seeing his picture whenever we came and went from our room. It was nice!)
(That picture almost came home with us! Too bad they superglued it to the wall!)
(We wish they had more shelves or drawers in another location, this wasn't the best, hard to get in and out of.)
(Club-house Sandwich.)
(Loaded cheese fries.)
(Quesadilla. This was pretty good.)
(Chicken Tacos were good, but they kept breaking at the bottoms. Also a bit spicy.)
(Our stateroom steward George. Such a nice person!)
Swirls
Well Regal does offer the ice cream machine, but someone is there to make it for you. Which is nice and from a sanitary standpoint with the Norovirus which Princess has had a few time in the past years. Don't let that deter you, it's a very uncommon thing to happen, just keep clean and you should be fine. Don't be the idiot who sneezed in my face and got me a bit sick for most of my cruise. Swirls does offer a few different options in a cone or bowl. Remember if you want ice cream and the machine stuff isn't what you're really wanting, go down to Gelato (check Princess Patter for times) and check out their options, prices were really good!
Symphony Dining Room
Here was our dining room for this week. Our first night we sat at a two-top and our service was not that good at all, however we setup a specific time and table, so we didn't have to wait in line and just went to our table every night. Good thing for the change. We were blessed to have two amazing men who took great care of us all week! Everton, our head waiter and his assistant Alex. They were a pleasure, both great personalities and very professional. I looked around and saw a lot of waiters that just filled water and brought out food, wouldn't talk much at all. Our guys were great, above and beyond our expectations and best we've had in all of our 30 cruises. Also the Maitre D's (I believe they were) were great. Michael and Ignazio were awesome. Talked to them every night as they went around. Really nice guys. Also on the other side was Winston, another great guy. Really amazing staff, have to applaud them for that. Overall everyone seemed very happy to be there, you don't get that a lot on cruises, so it was nice to have that in full effect for a change. The service like I mentioned was great, food came out perfect for the most part. The menu did have a decent selection every night, it did lack a steak options nightly. That would have been nice. Portions were good and flavorful. I haven't eaten this much shellfish since I was a kid, really nice for a change. I'd have to say stay away from the special burgers, they weren't the best and the one with the jalapeno is still burning my tounge off!
(Didn't care for the bread everynight, felt it could have been fresher and warm.)
(Clams and mussels, I loved this dish!)
(This was the Beef Wellington, overall good. We're not huge fans of wellington, but overall good.)
(This was our second formal night lobster tail. We were not fans of it, felt they were a bit rushed, same with the mushroom risotto. We ordered 4 in total between the two of us and same throughout.)
(This was a special dish that the chef personally made for my wife and I. He came out after to see how we enjoyed it and apologized for the lobster mishap the night before. They went above and beyond here. Amazing flavor and this dish was perfect!)
(Another view. The mushrooms in the risotto were HUGE!)
(Our assistant waiter Alex on the left and head waiter Everton on the right. Both amazing guys! Great personality and super hard workers. So glad to have them for the week.)
Terrace Pool
All the way in the back of the ship is the Terrace Pool. It's a small pool, similar to the pool under the big screen on Lido. We hung out here for a little bit. We didn't care for the layout since it is raised up and you can't see the chairs below. Wasn't really too crowded at any point.
(To understand what I was talking about with not being able to see your chair from the pool. Hard to do if you're inside the pool.)
Trident Grill
Here is the spot where you can get a hot dog or burger or anything else that is on the menu (at the end of the buffet, check it out daily.). We didn't eat any of this so really can't comment on them, but if it was anything like the dining room or island buffet they were not worth getting again.
Vines Winebar
Here is the wine bar on Regal. Loved the setup and how relaxed the lounge felt most of the time. Very nice. Also I saw a table setup with glasses for a wine tasting, so they may offer another one here, only saw one table so if interested check early on the cruise.
Vista Lounge
All the way in the back of the ship is the Vista Lounge. A under-used lounge we felt. Very big and plenty of seats everywhere. We headed here for the Grammy night when it was showing. Had front row seats and enjoyed it. They also show movies once in a while as well. I also want to say that bingo was here as well.
Wedding Chapel
Looking to renew your vows? If so this is probably where they will do it on the ship.
Wheelhouse Bar
Throughout somepoint of our cruise we were supposed to have a pub lunch. I don't recall ever seeing it and I want to say it was here. The bar is right outside of the steakhouse. They do offer games throughout some of the days as well as live music at night.
Thank you for checking out our tour and review around Regal Princess. We hope you had a great time with us! Don't forget to check out the other cruises we've been on and stay tuned for our next adventure! Check out the dining menus below from our Anytime dinner from our trip.
Dinner Menus (Symphony Dining Room)
Here are the dining room menus from our trip.
Thanks again for checking out our review and tour of Regal Princess. Make sure to head over to our FACEBOOK PAGE for more pictures. Also we run a Disney Addict Junkie blog as well as a FACEBOOK PAGE for that as well! Keep a lookout for our next trip and like our Facebook pages, you never know where we will be going next!
Regal Princess
Here are some photos around Regal Princess that really don't have a set place in any of the above or below sections.
